"People We Meet on Vacation," Emily Henry's bestselling novel, will become a Netflix movie.
The 2021 romance focuses on two friends, Alex and Poppy, who went on summer trips together for years until one went awry. Two years later, Poppy convinces Alex to reconnect for one more trip.
Emily Bader ("My Lady Jane") has been cast as Poppy and Tom Blyth ("The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes") will play Alex in the movie, being directed by Brett Haley ("Hearts Beat Loud," "All the Bright Places"). The film is being produced with Sony Pictures, Netflix announced Friday.
The beloved book has sold more than 2 million copies in the U.S. and is Henry's top-selling book, according to Netflix. Three more of Henry's novels – "Beach Read," "Book Lovers" and "Funny Story" – are in development to become films and her novel, "Happy Place," will become a series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I’ve been kind of an anxious wreck about who would play these characters,” Henry tells them in the video. “I truly could not feel more confident that my readers and then so many more people who don’t even know about the book are going to completely fall in love with Poppy and Alex.”
Fans of the book chimed in with their hearty approval.
"I didn’t even know it would be them (cast) and I can’t picture anyone else now," one user wrote. "This is what perfect casting feels like."
Another said: "I am personally ready to be changed as a person by this adaptation."
There's no release date set for the film.
