It's just not summer without The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Based on the second book in Jenny Han's trilogy, It's Not Summer Without You, the Amazon Prime Video hit series' highly anticipated second season premieres July 14. And fans finally got their first look at Belly (Lola Tung) and the Fisher boys Conrad (Christopher Brinley) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) back in Cousins Beach when the official trailer dropped on June 8.
And, just like with the first season, the first look debuted another special gift from Taylor Swift: A new, slowed-down version of "August" off of her beloved folklore album. (New TSITP eps and a TS remix in one week? We're not worthy!)
So, what can fans expect from the new season? A lot of emotional turmoil for our summer girl, Belly.
"With Conrad and Jeremiah fighting over her heart and the return of Susannah's cancer, she's not sure summer will ever be the same," described a press release from Prime Video. "When an unexpected visitor threatens the future of Susannah's beloved house, Belly has to rally the gang to come together—and to decide once and for all where her heart lies."
Previously, Swift released "This Love (Taylor's Version)" in The Summer I Turned Pretty's season one trailer, with Han telling E! News it was her "no. 1 dream" to get one of Swift's songs on the show. The showrunner added, "I don't even know the words for what that meant to me."
Swift's songs continued to play a pivotal role in the show: Two of the finale's most pivotal moments are set to Swift's songs, including the return of "This Love (Taylor's Version)", which plays as Belly and Conrad have their first kiss on the beach. Swoon.
And before that final scene, "The Way I Loved You (Taylor's Version)" serves as the needle-drop when Conrad finally steps in to dance with Belly at the debutante ball. Chills, reader, we had them and we weren't the only ones moved by the choice.
"That was my favorite moment," Tung told E! News. "It's really unbelievable. It was magical to film and everything came together perfectly."
Being able to use Swift's music brings everything full-circle for Han, who revealed that she "almost dedicated" the second book, It's Not Summer Without You, to the singer in 2010.
"I was listening to Fearless and I was like, 'These songs have really helped me get to the finish line,'" Han explained. "When I write books, I like to listen to music to help me see the emotional vein of the story and her music really did that with me for the series."
The Summer I Turned Pretty season two premieres July 14 on Amazon Prime Video. New episodes will drop weekly until the season finale on Aug. 18.
